Transcript - Introduction to the LWMP
Wastewater management is a key service provided by the Regional District of Nanaimo. The Liquid Waste Management Plan, or LWMP, is the RDN's long-range plan to manage wastewater. The LWMP was last amended in 2014. The RDN is preparing this amendment to:
- Build on successes;
- Set new action items to reflect current priorities;
- Update the projects in the Nanoose Bay wastewater capital plan;
- Propose a new timeline to provide secondary treatment at the Nanoose Bay Pollution Control Centre; and
- Communicate new cost estimates, the tax implications, and the amount of borrowing required to implement projects in the amended Liquid Waste Management Plan.
Focus areas for the amendment include:
- Maintenance and upgrades to wastewater infrastructure;
- Biosolids Management;
- Rainwater Management;
- Education and Outreach; and
- Administrative Tasks.
Community feedback is crucial to the success of the LWMP Amendment. An LWMP approved by the Province allows the RDN to put the plan in place and borrow funds without further approval from residents. We want to hear from you about the proposed changes.
Visit our project website to complete a survey and take part in other virtual engagement opportunities. Printed information, surveys and feedback forms are also available by request.
We look forward to hearing from you so we can build the Liquid Waste Management Plan together. For more information visit getinvolved.rdn.ca/lwmp-amendment.
Thank you.
