FAQ
I went to one of the open houses the week of January 20, 2020, what is happening now?
All the display panels from the open houses are now available here on the project page under Background Documents. Soon a short online survey will also be added for those that may have missed the open houses or those that attended but want to go back and review what was presented to provide more feedback. Work now begins on selecting a preferred option that will be presented to elected officials in February as well as residents again at another round of open houses later in February or early March. Of note is that a preferred option may or may not be one of the four options that were on display at the open houses. It may be a variation of one or a combination of design options.
Will there be a public survey and formal input process?
Yes, there will be engagement workshops and focus group sessions as well open houses, online engagement through Get Involved RDN and an online public survey. Some of these have already been completed and the public survey closes on January 7, 2020. Open houses where design options will be presented for feedback are scheduled for January 15 and 16. In late February final open houses will be scheduled for input on the preferred design option. Refer back frequently to Get Involved RDN to know when they are occurring.
What amenities will be added or changed like more space for swimming, water features for children, health and wellness features and larger change rooms?
This has yet to been determined and will rely on input from the public as well as user and stakeholder groups. Amenity options will be presented at the open houses to be scheduled in January and February.
Why does the pool need to be expanded or upgraded?
As early as 2006 and during the Master Plan community engagement process both user groups and residents overall identified a desire to expand Ravensong Aquatics Centre to meet usage demands.
Will there be a pool closure?
This has not been determined yet. A desire and need to minimize any facility closure should the expansion happen has been identified and has been set as priority.
I already gave my input why should I attend more meetings?
These sessions are not only an opportunity to confirm feedback you may have provided before such as during the development of the 2019 - 2029 Oceanside Recreation Services Master Plan or directly to RDN staff but also any new feedback you wish to provide.
When will construction start?
This has not been determined yet. The RDN Board has only approved Phase 1 of this project which is to create a concept design and feasibility study of a possible expansion to Ravensong Aquatic Centre.
Will my taxes increase?
This has not been determined yet. Funding of both capital construction and annual operating costs will depend on the design and configuration of the options to be presented.
What is the cost?
This has not been determined as design options have not yet been created.
