The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), City of Nanaimo, Town of Qualicum Beach, and District of Lantzville are developing a Net Zero Buildings Strategy to support energy efficient, low-carbon buildings and localized energy generation in the Region. The strategy will explore a range of policies and programs that can be implemented by both local governments and the regional government. The primary policy options that are being explored include:
- Increasing energy efficiency of new buildings through the implementation of the BC Energy Step Code
- Increasing carbon performance (i.e. electrification) of new buildings through the implementation of the Zero Carbon Step Code
- Requiring higher levels of efficiency or carbon performance for buildings going through the rezoning process
- Promoting the adoption of energy efficient and/or low-carbon buildings through Financial and non-financial incentives
We are looking for the building industry’s feedback to help understand the impact, and feasibility of these policies throughout the Region.
The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We will keep you informed as this strategy is developed. We will be following up with a summary of the high-level outcomes of the survey and Industry Workshop through an email in May/June.
