Transit Redevelopment Strategy Timeline

Survey #2 - Feedback on Proposed Changes to Transit Network

As part of the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Transit Redevelopment Strategy (TRS), this survey is seeking your feedback on proposed changes being considered for the RDN Transit’s routes, services and infrastructure. The service and infrastructure proposals are based on analysis, best practices and feedback heard from transit customers, staff and citizens in the project’s first round of engagement in summer 2021.

We heard you that your top priorities are a transit system that is:

  • more direct,
  • more frequent, and
  • easy to use.

The proposed system changes show how routes could be restructured along with service and infrastructure added, to better connect residents across the region. Note that the proposed revised network uses new route numbers and names so that in future the most important and frequent routes in the system (Primary Routes 1, 2, 3 and 9) will appear first, followed by the Neighbourhood routes serving local areas and Connector routes.

We want to hear your thoughts on whether these proposed changes will improve your connectivity to major destinations in the RDN and provide better and more frequent connections to where you want to go. If not, what changes do we need to consider to better accommodate your transit needs?

We are seeking your feedback on the following:

  • The Primary Routes that will become the system’s new Rapid and Frequent lines connecting the highest ridership destinations.
  • Neighbourhood and Connector Routes for the Central, South and North areas of the RDN that will connect local and interregional areas into the Primary Routes.
  • Priorities for improving transit infrastructure, such as improvements to stops and shelters as well as transit priority measures to make service fast and reliable.

Proposed timelines shown for phases of changes are approximate and are pending confirmation of local and provincial funding availability each year.

The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and all responses will be kept confidential and anonymous, though if you’d like to be entered to win one of ten (10) one-month passes, please leave your name and email at the end of the survey.

The survey will be open until 11:59pm on November 3, 2021

Thank you for your time and participation! Let's get started.
