Share Public Hearing Scheduled on Facebook Share Public Hearing Scheduled on Twitter Share Public Hearing Scheduled on Linkedin Email Public Hearing Scheduled linkA Public Hearing will be held for Amendment Bylaws 1615.04, 1620.06 and 500.429 respecting the Nanaimo Airport lands. The purpose of these Amendment Bylaws is to acknowledge current airport use, to achieve consistency with the adopted Nanaimo Airport Land Use Plan and to support other commercial uses complementary to the Nanaimo Airport on part of the land adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway. The Public hearing will be convened by virtual means and is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom. This bylaw makes changes to the "Regional District of Nanaimo Regional Growth Strategy Bylaw No. 1615, 2011" by amending Map 4 – Land Use Designations to re-align the Industrial and the Resource Lands and Open Space designations on the Airport lands and extends the growth containment boundary at the Cassidy Village Centre to include part of the Airport lands adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway. These map changes to the RGS mirror the changes in the proposed OCP and Bylaw 500 amendments. There are no other changes to the RGS required or proposed. The Proposed RGS Amendment Bylaw has now been referred to First Nations, agencies and local stakeholders as identified in the Board approved RGS Engagement Plan.

These bylaws make changes to the Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area A Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1620, 2011 and the Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Bylaw 500, 1987. The staff report and video of this agenda item at the September 15, 2020 Board meeting can be viewed here.
The revised bylaws have now been referred to First Nations, agencies and local stakeholders. A public hearing will be scheduled later in the Fall of 2020.
