The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has received a request for a resolution for a proposed Non-Medical Cannabis Retail Store Licence. The applicant intendsto establish a provincially licensed store within an existing building on property located at 1211/1221 Meadowood Way. The subject property is currently zoned Commercial 1 (C-1) in "Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area F Zoning and Subdivision Bylaw No. 1285, 2002" (Bylaw 1285).
The legal sale of cannabis is considered a retail use and the existing C-1 zoning on the property includes 'Retail Store' as a permitted principal use (see Document Library). In order to proceed with the Non-Medical Cannabis Retail Store, the applicant has requested a resolution of support from the Regional Board to be provided to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch as part of the ongoing application process with the Province.
