Solid Waste and Recycling Development Cost Charge Bylaw
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is proposing the implementation of a region-wide Solid Waste and Recycling Development Cost Charges (DCCs). Recent amendments to the Local Government Act added new waste management and recycling facilities. This consultation is primarily focused on the developers and home builders.
DCCs are fees that local government collects from land developers to help pay the costs of solid waste and recycling capital infrastructure. DCCs help ensure that developers pay their fair share of the costs required to develop infrastructure. The RDN has identified eligible solid waste and recycling projects that need to be constructed over the next 26 years to support the solid waste generated by new development in the residential, multi-family, industrial, commercial and institutional sectors. The RDN proposes to add a new category of DCC, solid waste recycling, to the RDN's overall DCC program and would like your feedback.
